A Message from Mr. Cheeseman

 

Dear St. David’s Community,

Words cannot express my joy and gratitude to have been chosen as your next head of school and to join a community that is in pursuit of the Lordship of Christ in all that it does. As Cathy and I prepare to join this esteemed community dedicated to boldly embracing faith, virtue, and knowledge, we are filled with excitement and anticipation for the journey that lies ahead with you. As educators for the past thirty-five years and as parents of four children, we have similarly endeavored, with the Lord’s help, to keep faith, virtue, and knowledge as our road map. We see St. David’s as a uniquely strong fit for our family values and future aspirations.

From the moment I first met the search committee and then set foot on campus, I have been struck by the palpable sense of community and commitment to excellence that permeates every corner of this institution. Your dedication to nurturing the hearts and minds of our students in accordance with our shared values is truly inspiring, and Cathy and I are deeply honored to have the opportunity to join you in this noble endeavor. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you with whom I had the privilege and honor to speak during the interview process. Your warm welcome and thoughtful conversations about what makes St. David’s such a special place inspired me.

As we embark on this new chapter together, I am eager to collaborate with each member of our community—Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends of the school—to further advance our mission and uphold the rich traditions that have long distinguished St. David’s. Guided by our unwavering commitment to faith, virtue, and knowledge, I am confident that we will continue to cultivate a learning environment where every student is empowered to flourish spiritually, academically, artistically, and athletically, with the kind of Christian character that will effectively lead the next generation.

In the coming months, I look forward to getting to know you personally and working closely with you to chart a course for the future that honors our God and reflects our shared values and aspirations. Together, we will strive to build upon the strong foundation laid by those who have come before us, embracing innovation and excellence as we prepare our students to lead lives of purpose, integrity, and service in an ever-changing world. In the near term, I am looking forward to working with Matt Hillegass and the leadership team this summer to consider when I should visit during the 2024-25 school year and begin our collaborative planning for the 2025-26 school year.

Once again, I extend my deepest gratitude for the warm welcome extended to me and Cathy, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to embark on this journey alongside each and every one of you. May God continue to bless our endeavors and guide us in all we do.
