Our Varsity Boys Golf Team traveled to Sanford for their second match against Grace Christian of Sanford as well as Ravenscroft. The Warriors arrived at the Quail Ridge Golf Course and it was in very good shape, the weather was also perfect for a good day of golf. The Warriors handled this match like a business trip and delivered a second place finish beating out Ravenscroft by a narrow 4 strokes. Eighth grader James Fisher had the best score for the Warriors with an even-par 36. Eighth grader Sheppard Mackenzie fired a 37 and eighth grader Ford Fisher did a great job of bouncing back going -3 in his final 7 holes to shoot a 38. Sophomore Spence Saik shot a 41 with Freshman Will McClatchey close behind with a 42. Eighth grader Grant Fisher finished the scoring for the Warriors with a 44.
Our Varsity Boys Golf Team hit the course at Lochmere GC on Monday, March 11th in wet and windy conditions. Despite the weather the Warriors were ready to compete. The Warriors shot well and were able to come out ahead on the leaderboard with their closest challenger being conference rivals Cary Christian which the Warriors beat by eight strokes. Eighth grader James Fisher was the match medalist and shot a one-under par 34 beating the entire field of 28 players. Eighth graders Sheppard Mackenzie and Ford Fisher played well with scores of 38 and 39 respectively. Rounding out the Warrior's scorers were Junior Griffin Chesson with a 42, Junior Grayson Hanna with a 43, and Junior Julius Smith with a 44. The Warriors will be in action again on March 12th when they travel to take on Grace of Sanford.
On Thursday, our Varsity Warriors went to Cutter Creek CC in Snow Hill, NC to play in our final regular season EPIC match hosted by Parrott Academy. Playing at almost 6500 yards, wind and a little rain made for a challenging day, but not so much for our Warriors. Michael LaSasso led the team and was Medalist for the day with a round of 63(9 under par)! This ties his personal best score in competition. Junior Christian Conway set his own personal best record with a 5 under par 67, and Senior leader Heyward George set a personal record in competition of 2 under par 70. Davis Adams scored a 2 under par 70, contributing to the BIG day! 7th grade rookie Preston Hage showed he can play with the varsity high schoolers shooting a 3 over par 75. Along with Matt Messenger scoring a 76, and sophomore Christian Seamster shot 79. All of this resulted in individual records set, and a St. David’s Varsity Golf team and school record match score of 18 under par 270!
The varsity boys golf team hosted the Eastern Plains Independence Conference (EPIC) golf match on Monday, April 12. at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The Warriors played well navigating their home course earning the team win. Michael LaSasso led the Warriors by hitting 3 under par for the day shooting a 69 and medaling in the conference match. Another strong performance came from 7th grader Preston Hage by shooting 3 over par for the day with a 75. The Warriors look to continue their strong play at Cutter Creek Golf Course on Thursday, April 15 in another EPIC conference matchup.
