A Portrait of a Partnership at St. David’s

You’ve likely encountered the word partnership as you’ve explored independent schools. At St. David’s, partnership is more than a philosophy; it is a defining characteristic of our community.
We believe children flourish when the important adults in their lives are working together toward a shared purpose. Education is not something that happens only in the classroom. It is a collaborative journey that involves teachers, parents, coaches, mentors, and school leaders walking alongside students as they grow academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.
Because partnership is so important to the student experience, we believe it is helpful to begin with clarity.
St. David’s is a distinctly Christian school with a faculty and staff who are committed to Christian faith and to the school’s mission. We welcome families from a wide range of faith traditions, as well as those who do not identify with a particular faith. We ask every family who joins St. David’s to understand and fully support the school’s Christian mission, purpose, and ideals. Before exploring the dynamics of a healthy partnership, it is important to acknowledge that St. David’s is not the right fit for every family. Specifically, our school may not be the best environment for families who:
- Are uncomfortable with our Christian mission and the integration of faith throughout the student experience.
- Find it difficult to communicate constructively with teachers, coaches, or school leaders when challenges arise.
- Prefer to remain largely disengaged from their child’s educational journey.
- Seek only one aspect of the school experience, such as academics, athletics, or college outcomes, without embracing our broader mission of whole-person formation.
- Prefer a transactional relationship with the school rather than a collaborative partnership.
While we desire for every student to thrive, we recognize that the strongest partnerships occur when families and the school share a common vision from the outset. We believe it is better to discover this alignment early than to experience frustration later.
So what does a successful educational partnership at St. David’s look like? Our Portrait of a Partnership outlines six shared commitments that guide the relationship between home and school.
